The Brown County Historical society is hosting
activities for New Ulm Capital for a Day.
- 9:00 a.m. - The New Ulm
Popcorn Wagon dedication and naming event will
take place. The wagon has been restored and
will make its first appearance on Capital for a
Day and the contest winner for naming the
popcorn wagon will also be announced.
- 10 am to 2 pm. - The
Pictorial Stamp Cancellation will be held.
Bring your stamped letters, postcards or new
U.S. Postal Service Minnesota Sesquicentennial
stamps to be cancelled for posterity
-11 am to 4 pm - A New
Ulm Historic Cultural Congress will be held.
Not-for-Profits who operate museums, historic
homes and related organizations will have a
table with their organizations publications,
membership applications, newsletters and ongoing
projects to share with the public and answer
questions.
- 1 to 4 pm. - A book
signing by Minnesota authors will take place in
the Main Museum. Come in and visit with authors
who have recently published books and have your
purchase signed.
- 3 PM - Historic Marker
Dedication of two outdoor weather proof
signs/reproductions of an important historic
Brown County sketch and painting will be
dedicated in front of the Brown County
Historical Museum. The illustrated county
history map by artist Paul Klammer shows bygone
trails, lakes and river ferries. Comfrey, MN
artist Mike Eischen's carefully researched
"Battlefield New Ulm" painting creates for the
viewer's sense of terrible urgency as New Ulm
comes under attack on August 23, 1862
